Sunday 1st July 2012 – walk **** sunny periods
Mag went for a lovely walk round the wood, up to the lake and along the
babbling brook:) Twice as I was still in bed and wasn’t ready. After
breakfast we drove off to Horton which is near the Port Eynon Bay. The car
park is really expensive at £5 for the day but we had to put £1.30 in to
actually get to see the beach and assess whether it was any good for
sailing today! We walked a long way along both ways on the beach; it is a
beautiful sandy beach with rocks at either end and the sun was out !!! We
walked along to a ruined Salt Mill which was near a brilliant campsite
field – right on the cliff. Back to the van and some other windsurfers
had turned up so I decided to sail. Mag had to walk to the RNLI shop to
buy some fudge to change £20 to pay another £5 for the car park – if
you add on the £1.25 for the fudge this bloomin car park has cost us
£8!!!! It is lovely though. Mag had a coffee and read my brilliant book
then packed my lunch. After taking a few photos of me sailing and saying
bye she walked along the Welsh coast path to Oxwich Point. It was a
brilliant walk with stunning views and along the rugged coast and rough
sea. There were lots of wild flowers – the cerise cranesbill was her
favourite. She didn’t see any seals but there were some ponies! She had
made up my mind to walk for an hour out and an hour back so she was pleased
that she got right round the corner and could actually sea Oxwich beach
when her hour was up and she stopped for lunch. Amazingly the weather
hasn’t been too bad today but it did get black and start to rain for a
few minutes just as she got to a thick tunnel of trees so she was
sheltered. Mag then noticed a gap in the hedge and a rope leading down to
help you get to some flat rocks with a good view of the bay. There were
fishermen ranging from 3 small trawlers, men in canoes and people on the
rocks. She sat on the rocks and ate my lunch and read my book for 45
minutes before setting off back. Mag got about half way back when met up
with me who had finished an ok sail and had walked to meet her as arranged.
One of the horses was very pleased to seeme!!! Mag have certainly walked
miles today! We left there about 7 and drove back to Millwood for our
second night – at least we are not paying to stay the night even if the
car parks are a rip off! It is raining again as I am typing this – I
don’t know if they ever have a day without rain in Wales – it’s why
it’s so green!!!
